Access RestrictionsThe Lego Forth Bridge created by Michael Dineen has narrowly fallen short of being selected for production as an official Lego set.
After achieving the 10,000 required supporters in January 2021, the Forth Bridge Lego submission entered the review period in May 2021 and in early November 2021 Lego advised Michael that, after an extensive review, they had decided against turning his idea into an official set.
Michael said: "As disappointing as this news is, it’s worth reflecting on the achievement of being part of the 0.5% of Lego IDEA submissions that reach the review stage and the efforts to introduce Scotland’s first Lego set to shelves around the world.
"I would like to offer sincere thanks to every single person who supported me throughout the process as I literally relied on every single vote so thank you."
The model will now be located in the Contact and Education Centre to facilitate the educational offering, to help explain how bridges stay up as well as how the real Forth Bridge was built. It is hoped the model will also encourage and inspire school pupils to consider becoming a Civil Engineering……….or a Lego designer.
