Launch of the UK's First Autonomous Bus

16th May 2023
New Route AB1

Launch of the UK's First Autonomous Bus

Autonomous Bus AB1 is a new bus route joining Ferrytoll Park and Ride in Fife, with Edinburgh Park Transport Interchange.

This route is special because AB1 is the UK's first autonomous bus service, which means that the vehicles are able to drive themselves!

The new 14-mile Stagecoach route includes the Forth Road Bridge, where the buses stop at the South Access stop by the Viewpoint.

Find out more in the short film below when Transport Minister, Kevin Stewart, launched this Project CAVForth autonomous bus.

Project CAVForth is one of the most ambitious and complex autonomous bus trials worldwide. The project is led by Fusion Processing Ltd in cooperation with project partners Stagecoach, Transport Scotland, Alexander Dennis, Edinburgh Napier University and Bristol Robotics Laboratory. It is co-funded by the UK Government’s Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles.
