Walking or Cycling Across The Forth Road Bridge
With the opening of the Queensferry Crossing as a motorway, the Forth Road Bridge is now a Public Transport Corridor, which continues to be the route for walking and cycling across the Firth of Forth.
The bridges and surrounding road network have been designed to cater for all travel modes by making the most appropriate use of existing and new infrastructure.
There is no pedestrian or cyclist access to the Queensferry Crossing - this is a motorway.
With general traffic removed from the Forth Road Bridge, the experience for pedestrians and cyclists is greatly improved. Walking & cycling on and around the Forth Bridges provides the opportunity to build in physical activity as an everyday trip.
New sections of footpaths, cycleways and safe crossing points have also been introduced as part of the changes to the road network.
The Forth Bridges Trail
A 5 mile circular walk or cycle that takes in the iconic Forth Bridges and the distinctive historic communities of North and South Queensferry.

Whether you’re into cycling or mountain biking, rural or urban routes, there’s plenty to choose from.
The Fife Coastal Path
Pick up the Fife Coastal Path from North Queensferry, or join the John Muir Way or the Pilgrim Way.
Public Transport
Journey timesThe dedicated public transport corridor allows buses, taxis and motorcycles (up to 1255cc) to cross the Forth Road Bridge, making public transport quick and reliable.
Park and Ride facilities are available at Ferrytoll and Halbeath in Fife.
There is access to the rail network with several stations in the area (Dalmeny, Inverkeithing and North Queensferry).

The Forth Road Bridge closes to pedestrians and cyclists when wind speeds reach 50mph.
