Putting together the magazine each month, brings back so many memories. I remember the first time I met our mayor, Ruth Asmundson. She’s a woman that you want to hug, and sit down with for a long chat. Her story touches on her arrival to Davis, meeting her husband, her children and her path to politics. We’re also featuring the UC Davis Large Animal Clinic, which brings back the memory of one of my teen crushes on a vet student named Craig. My crush was over the day he came out to my grandparents’ ranch to help a distressed horse. He put on a very large glove that covered his entire arm, curing that horse and traumatizing me all at the same time.

Jack Plasterer is trying to realize his dream of bringing arena football to the Sacramento area. If you see him around town, say “Hi Jack!” and he will most likely respond, “Don’t say that in an airport!” We’re also featuring Christi Raycraft, who went all the way through the Davis school system with my oldest son, Mark. She’s been named by The California Aggie newspaper as UC Davis’ Female Athlete of the Year for her success in water polo.

Each issue is like a walk down Memory Lane for me – a lane which, in Davis, always feels tree-lined with birds chirping and a lemonade stand on every corner.
